NaropaCare focuses on solutions for critical healthcare challenges in Ladakh’s most neglected regions. We collaborate with existing community partners and deploy specialised teams to these regions.

We are inviting potential grantees to submit Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from eligible organisations working in Ladakh. This first stage allows us to identify strong community-based partners who will be shortlisted and invited to submit detailed technical and financial proposals. We also encourage joint submissions of EOIs.

NaropaCare is a community-centred initiative that identifies and supports grassroots organisations delivering practical, culturally grounded solutions to healthcare access challenges- including geographic remoteness, limited infrastructure, low health literacy, and linguistic or cultural barriers.

With a total program fund of INR 50,00,000, NaropaCare will award 4–5 grants, ranging from INR 8,00,000 to INR 10,00,000, for projects implemented over a period of up to 12 months (April 2026 – March 2027).

About

NaropaCare addresses critical healthcare challenges in the most remote regions of Ladakh. Ladakh is 3000 meters (10,000 feet) above sea level, with limited infrastructure, harsh winters and a rich ancient heritage. This presents unique obstacles to access to healthcare and healthcare literacy.

Remote villages are scattered across vast terrain, road access is seasonal, and healthcare facilities are limited. The doctor-to-patient ratio is 1:1,700 and access to timely, specialised care remains severely constrained. Many residents, particularly in rural communities, lack the information and support needed to navigate the healthcare system, resulting in late diagnoses and preventable health complications.

The Challenge

Live to Love launched NaropaCare to address these cultural and infrastructure-related barriers.
It recognises that while medical expertise exists, access to care often breaks down at the community level. As such, we leverage Ladakh’s local leaders and community figures who grasp cultural realities and can effectively translate and communicate health information.

NaropaCare bridges these two worlds, connecting healthcare professionals with community networks to ensure that essential health services reach people in ways that are accessible and culturally understood.

Through this model, we facilitate awareness, screening, and early detection across key areas, including breast cancer, reproductive health, mobility support for the elderly, and mental wellness.

The program prioritizes solutions that work on:

  1. Women's health

  2. Elderly care

  3. Cancer screening & awareness

  4. Mental health

  5. Substance abuse prevention

  6. Referral pathways

FAQ & Guidelines

    • Who can apply?

Non-profit organizations, community groups, and institutions working in Ladakh. We prioritise those with deep community trust and local presence.

    • Can individuals or informal groups apply?

The grant is primarily for registered organisations (Trusts, Societies, Section 8 companies). However, individuals or informal groups may apply if they partner with a registered organisation that can manage the funds.

    • Can a Doctor apply without a registered entity?

Yes. If you are a medical professional with a high-impact idea, we can pair you with a registered local NGO or a community leader with a proven track record to facilitate the project.

    • What if I have a great idea but no legal registration?

We encourage you to apply. For informal groups or individuals, we can help facilitate a partnership with an established local organisation to ensure administrative and legal compliance.

    • Do we need to be based in Ladakh?

Not necessarily, but the project must benefit Ladakh communities, and you must demonstrate active local partnerships.

    • Can we apply as a group?

Yes! We highly encourage collaboration between organizations, especially those combining medical expertise  with community leadership.

    • What is the funding range?

We support small to medium-scale initiatives. While 6-10 Lakhs is our indicative benchmark, we prioritise the quality of impact over budget size.

    • Do we need FCRA?

If you do not have it, please mention this in the application. We are committed to finding a solution and can work together to explore partnership models that allow you to participate.

    • Is funding provided all at once?

No, funds are disbursed in milestones over the 12-month project duration.

    • What can the grant cover?

Programmatic activities are the priority. Reasonable operational costs and essential equipment/supplies directly related to the project are also eligible.

    • Can we apply for an existing project?

Yes, if the grant helps you expand or scale an ongoing initiative to reach more people.

    • What types of projects do you support?

Any healthcare project, but we prioritise projects focusing on Women’s Health, Elderly Care, Mental Health,  Referral system  and Preventive Screening. We value projects that combine medical expertise  with community-led awareness and education.

    • How are applications evaluated?

      We use a 100-point scorecard:

      • How well do you know the Ladakhi community?  How trusted are you within the Ladakhi community?  Do you have a track record working with Ladakhis? (25 points).

      • Public Health Expertise:  How much expertise do you have in public health and healthcare?  Do you have resources within this space?  A track record/credibility in this space (25 points).

      • Project Goals & Solutions:  How feasible and innovative is your approach to the problem you are looking to solve? How ambitious are your goals and impact measures?  (50 points).

    • What is the expected duration?

The initial term is one year. Exceptionally impactful projects may be eligible for support for an additional 1–2 years.

    • Request for Proposal vs. Full Proposal:

Request for proposal is your first step. It is a simplified form to introduce your idea. Shortlisted applicants will then be invited to submit a detailed proposal.

    • Beyond Funding:

NaropaCare provides an integrated support system, offering mentorship, access to our medical network, and strategic guidance via Live to Love (LTL).
